Southern Water EPA data report 2019

Water is essential for everything we do - from having a drink, to washing our clothes, and flushing the loo. Many people think there is plenty of water in the UK, but the South East of England is one of its driest regions and London gets less rain than Rome, Dallas and even Sydney. Our water supplies are being stretched further and further as the number of people living in our area increases. We have to plan ahead because the choices we make today will shape the water supply we can provide in the future. Every five years we prepare a Water Resources Management Plan WRMP which sets out how we will provide a secure and sustainable water supply for our customers, whilst protecting the environment.

The majority of water companies in England and Wales have re-submitted their PR19 business plans to Ofwat today 1 April. Thames Water said its new plan "commits to deliver more for its customers and the environment at a reduced cost". The updated plan is based on feedback from more than one million customers and includes a tough new pledge on efficiency, fewer pollutions and water supply interruptions, and a reduction in customer bills. Customers strongly backed the new version, with 87 per cent acceptability for the revised package — up from 67 per cent for the original plan. This is a transformative moment for Thames Water and our significant investment will help boost employment and regional economic growth and ensure London and the Thames Valley has the high-quality waste and water networks its residents rightly expect.
